"I'm Just the Other Woman" The MSR Singers
I recently got a new MP3 player, and so I've been going through a big collections of MP3s over recent days, adding album art & correcting misspelled names. I ended up going through the MSR collections of song-poems and rediscovering how weird some of them are.
Case in point: "I'm Just the Other Woman", which, according to the liner notes of the compilation of the same name, was the first recorded version of the author's lyrics. When MSR sent out this first version, complete with a weird backwards piano loop and good old Rodd Keith taking the lead vocal with falsetto, the author apparently demanded a second version (as was within her rights to do so, according to the contract MSR provided her).
So how bad does a song-poem have to be for the lyricist to demand a better version? Well, have a listen and find out.
