03:26 PM :: Stiff stuff.
This weekend we watched a recently made BBC documentary about Stiff Records, that great UK label that ran for nearly 10 years. They had interviews with a bunch of the original Stiff artists, including Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello (billed as D.P. Costello, in honor of the name that he was using when he was first shopping his demos around town), and a very disturbing Shane MacGowan (his laugh sounds exactly like the laugh of Ernie from Sesame Street).
So this week's MP3 is one of the great Stiff singles: Kirsty MacColl's "They Don't Know". If you only know the massively popular Tracey Ullman version, then check out the original recording by the original author.
