08:59 AM :: Food!
Some worthy food links:
* Quickspice is the place to go for Asian foods, from organic miso to ginger candy to Haw Flakes! (Haw Flakes?) Plus, they sell tableware, rice cookers, teas and coffees, and these awesome coffee-flavored candies that a local sushi restaurant gives out.
* For hot sauces, you'll definitely want to check out Mo Hotta Mo Betta, which has been selling everything hot since 1989. Wasabi-covered peanuts! Although my favorite hot snack is the habanero potato chips sold by Poore Brothers.
* If your culinary tastes run more towards caffeine, then peruse the caffeine section of Thinkgeek, which is loaded up with all sorts of candies, mints, sodas, and other caffeine application systems. (Caffeinated soap?) Thinkgeek has a caffeine sampler available, so you can try out a little of each product and see what you like. I'm partial to the Penguin mints. They used to have a chocolate flavor, which is currently missing from their product list. If it ever shows up again, get some of those, why don't you.
* One of these days, I really need to order some more of Mrs. Fearnow's Brunswick stew. This is a product that's all over the south, but isn't yet available at the local Dominick's. Their site doesn't yet allow online ordering, but you can order cans of the stew at Blue Ridge Foods, among other places. (Don't forget a case of Moon Pies for dessert!)
* I haven't investigated many sites that have recipes, but the one I do go to regularly is Pizzelle.com, which has a bunch of recipes for various flavors of pizzelles (which are these sort of cookie-like things that you make with a specialized cooking iron, like waffles). Favorite recipe: cardamon and orange.
* Favorite cookware store to visit: Chef's Catalog, mostly because there's a store near our place that's full of all the great kitchen gadgets that we don't need, but definitely want. (Like pie chains! I actually bought myself a pie chain!)
* The mecca for cookbook collectors: Powell's Books for Cooks and Gardeners in Portland, OR. A full-sized store that contains only new and used cookbooks and gardening books. I spent an awful lot of money there, last time we went to Portland. Don't worry about trucking stuff home if you visit the store; they'll gladly ship your purchases from the store to your home, so they'll show up when you get back.
